Superior Viaduct is a San Francisco based record label that focuses on curated reissues of art-punk, free jazz, and 20th century experimental music. During the run of the show, we will feature the work of photographer RUBY RAY, screen early films by renowned minimalist composer PHILL NIBLOCK, and present a series of live performances including legendary sax player Roscoe Mitchell, dissonant acoustic guitarist Bill Orcutt, and more. In conjunction with the exhibition "John Kilduff - Very Good Plus (VG+)"

Schedule of Events:

  • Saturday, March 1st (6 - 9pm) – Opening reception, screening films by Phill Niblock
  • Saturday, March 8th (1 - 5pm) – Record swap co-sponsored by Stranded and Explorist International
  • Saturday, March 15th (6 - 8pm) – Live performance by Roscoe Mitchell
  • Saturday, March 22nd (6 - 8pm) – Live performance by Bill Orcutt
  • Saturday, March 29th (6 - 9pm) – Closing party with live performance by Circuit Des Yeux

All events are free and all ages.

Heavy Breathing: FACTRIX show in Oakland June 22 2013

We are very excited to announce that FACTRIX will perform live for the first time together in 30+ years. One of our all-time favorite bands; last year we reissued their album Scheintot and collaboration with MONTE CAZAZZA, California Babylon. This is a special event to honor the release of RUBY RAY's book which features FACTRIX on its cover.

RUBY RAY Book Release & Signings May 29 2013

As staff photographer for seminal San Francisco punk fanzine Search & Destroy, RUBY RAY shot up-close-and-personal some of the best artists from the era. WILLIAM BURROUGHS, THE SEX PISTOLS, DEVO, X, DEAD KENNEDYS, FLIPPER – all were caught in Ray's lens. 

This first-time collection, From the Edge of the World: California Punk, 1977-1981, comes with an introduction by celebrated English rock critic Jon Savage. Over 100 photos + bonus CD of 16 bands from the scene including GERMS, THE ZEROS, THE DILS, THE AVENGERS, CRIME, THE SCREAMERS, CHROME, THE BAGS, MUTANTS, FACTRIX, THE SLEEPERS, NEGATIVE TREND, NOH MERCY, PINK SECTION, THE OFFS, and Z'EV.

Join us in celebrating the release with book signings at Varnish Fine Art in San Francisco on Saturday, June 8th, La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles on Friday, June 28th and Stranded in Oakland Sunday, June 30th. The Stranded event will have live music by John Doe (X) and Penelope Houston (THE AVENGERS). Spread the word.
